YOU ASK, WE ANSWER!
Q. Do I need to
have injection to have braces?
A. Absolutely
not, although bonding braces might take 45 to 60 minutes, it is a totally pain
free procedure and doesn’t need any injection or sedation.
Q. Will it hurt
afterward?
A. I won’t call
it pain but it is expected to get annoyed and discomforted after we put the
braces on and that might go for 2-5 days. The amount of discomfort is massively
reduced if Damon System used (around 70% more comfortable). Gargling with cold
water specially in early months of treatment (Thermal Wires Stage) will certainly help easing the discomfort,
however some time you might need to take a panadol or ipobrufin tablet to
control it.
Q. Do I need to
put braces if my teeth look straight but my bite doesn't look alright?
A. The major
goal for braces is to enhance the attractiveness of the face and teeth, however
some bite problem if untreated might
lead to damage of teeth, gum and supporting bone or even affect the TMJ
negatively, so I would recommend you to have detailed assessment to decide
whether you need braces or not based on these worries.
Q. Is it
possible to accurately decide the time of the treatment with braces?
A. Upon initial
assessment of you condition, I would give an estimate of required time for
active treatment (braces), however this might extend or shorten depends on
several factors; you tissue response to orthodontic forces, your compliance to
appointments, and to instruction given (missing appointments, breakages and
poor hygiene will definitely delay treatment progress and affect negatively the
quality of the final result). I will keep updated regularly about the progress
of treatment and when I expect to remove braces.
Q. How much do
braces cost?
A. I believe
that achieving beautiful and more attractive smile is a worth investment that
can assure you and/or your kids a better social interaction as well as a more
positive self esteem and self fulfillment.
Since every
patient is different, and presence of diverse mechano-therapies, there is no
standard fee. The fees will depend on complexity and severity of your case as
well as it will partly depend on type of orthodontic system that you will
choose from our available and suitable systems. In the end, we’ll make sure
that every cent that you pay will counts by seeing the result that you want.
Q. Is it
possible to finance the fee based on installments?
A. Yes, once a
fee is agreed, our staff will work with you a standard and affordable format to
finance the fee into installments and this will be documented into a contract
with the clinic.
Q. Who do I need
to use retainer following the correction of teeth?
A. Before you
start braces, your teeth are in stable position and tissues around them (cheek,
lips, tongue, alveolar bone & gum) are in such harmonies that keep the
teeth where they are. However when teeth moved to the new place this harmony is
disrupted and the role of retainer is to keep teeth in the right shape till we
get the harmony back.
Q. How long do I
need to use retainer for?
A. Retainers
SHOULD BE worn 24 hours a day except at eating and brushing time, seven days a
week for the first year after removing braces, there will be a check up for you
every 3 months in the first year. At the end of the year and based on your
original condition of your teeth and your current status, a Gradual Retainer
Withdrawal Scheme (GRWS) will be tailored to you and to be followed.
In regards to
the bonded (stuck on) retainer that will be fitted at the back of your teeth,
we might decide to keep until your growth is concluded, however in certain
condition this could be kept indefinitely.
